Short Bio:

Maximilian Auffhammer is the Avice M. Saint Professor at UC Berkeley. Professor Auffhammer received his B.S. in environmental science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1996, a M.S. in environmental and resource economics at the same institution in 1998, and a Ph.D. in economics from UC San Diego in 2003. He joined the faculty at UC Berkeley in 2003. His research focuses on environmental and resource economics, climate economics, energy economics, and applied econometrics. He is a Fellow of AERE, Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Humboldt Fellow, and served as a lead author for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He served as the Chair and Vice Chair of the Berkeley Academic Senate, as Associate Dean in the Social Sciences, and Regional Associate Dean beyond Letters and Science. Professor Auffhammer is the recipient of the Campus Distinguished Teaching Award (2009), the Cheit Teaching Award in the Haas School of Business (2017 & 2021), the the 2007 Cozzarelli Prize awarded by the National Academies of Sciences, and the 2007 Sarlo Distinguished Mentoring Award. He is most proud of the Berkeley Summer School he started (with lots of help). He loves mountains in the winter, spending time with his family, and attempting to make the world a better place - cost-effectively.
